Mark Hillier BSc (Hons) MRICS, FBEng, MCIOB

Head of Training and Development

Mark has 15 years experience in Building Control, both in Local Authority and in private practice. Mark delivers seminars on all aspects of Building Control and Fire Safety and has written articles for a number of industry magazines.

He is also responsible for ensuring that trainee surveyors within the Butler & Young Group of companies achieve full qualification through effective monitoring and mentoring within the company. He has worked on a wide variety of projects from domestic through to industrial, retail and educational buildings with a particular specialisation in Means of Escape.



Terry O'Neill BEng (Hons), CEng, MIFireE,

Director, Butler & Young Group

Terry is Managing Director of Trenton Consultants which is part of the Butler & Young Group of Companies. As a charted Fire Engineer he has been involved in a wide range of complex fire engineered solutions. He is the nominated specialist fire engineer to RIBA.

Prior to joining Butler & Young he served 24 years in the Fire Service and is the former Head of Fire Engineering Group for London Fire.



Alan Russell EngTech, MaPS, MIPHE, AIOSH, FFB

Manager, CDM Co-ordinator & Training

Alan has been a practising Planning Supervisor for 10 years and is registered with the APS. He is also a Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health, Member of the Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineers and Registered with Institute of Hospital Engineers and the British Occupational Hygiene Society.

Prior to joining us Alan spent 12 years as Senior Estates Manager within the NHS, responsible for the safety of staff and patients.



Paul Gray BSc, CEng, MICE, CMIOSH, MaPS

Health, Safety & Construction Consultant

Paul is a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner and a Chartered Engineer.

A former Technical Director with Scott Wilson he now practises as an independent consultant.

Paul is competent in providing training, guidance, advice and assistance in occupational and construction health and safety; in particular presenting training courses associated with the CDM Regulations.



Adam Taylor Beng (Hons), CEng, MIFireE

Principal Fire Engineer

Adam worked in Ireland for three years designing and project managing sprinkler system installation on buildings from train storage sheds through printing facilities to pharmaceutical manufacturing plants.

He then spent three years working for Chiltern Fire on fire suppression research projects including sprinklers and water mist and now works for Trenton Fire on designing fire engineered solutions. He sits on the Arson Control Forum and Technical Services Advisory Group for the Institute of Fire Engineers.
